Hy my name is Anthony, and this is my story of how I went from a slave to be a free man.

Sadly, I was born a slave, both my parents were slaves. I was born in 1841 at the plantation of Mister Jonhson, on his cotton plantation in the state of Kentucky. I started working on the plantation already when I was 6 years old. Even tho it was though it was almost the best thing. Because we got to get outside, that was the only time that we were allowed that, we didn’t nearly have any space either. We lived 9 adults and 4 kids included me in one room in Mister Johnsons basement which was tiny. Unfortunately, Michael and Boris died before we managed to escape, they died because of the bad circumstances, and the tiny amount of food we got. That amount was two pieces of bread a day, but that was not enough if we were a bit lazy or just needed a break from the cotton picking, we got whipped. But let's get to it, the way I escaped from Mister Johnsons plantation was by something called the underground railroad. But mostly because of Harriet Tubman which you probably have heard of before. She got in contact with us slaves, and she had already planned the escape. We would split up in 2 groups and would go to different places. My group with me, and 5 others would go to the state of New York and the other to somewhere in Canada. But we started escaping at night when Mister Johnson was away on a “business trip”. Harriet Tubman got us to a safe house in Ohio and from there we would move slowly but surely to different safe houses in the south. Until we got to New York, it took us about 7 months. Unlucky the other group didn’t make it. The year is Now 1858 and I am currently still living In New York and fighting for every man to be equal. It has got better but there is still a long way.
