This paper investigates why The American Civil War in 1861 broke out, what role Abraham Lincoln played in the war. First of all I studied the civil war and the two who opposed each other, The Union and The Confederation also known as The Northern States and The Southern States. Then I made an analysis of Lincoln's speech at Gettysburg. The study of The North and The South States shows that The South wanted slaves and The North was against it so a war of both armies and politicians broke out. Politics was of utmost importance of the war and thus the Northern States had an advantage because the president, Abraham Lincoln, took their favor. Lincoln played a big role in the war for the Northern States and all the blacks. He was a symbol of status, hope and encouragement and his speeches was great. The analysis of Lincoln's speech at Gettysburg confirmed his talent of giving speeches and the way he gave his people encouragement and hope. Finally the war ends with Lincoln and his treaty gets accepted which means the blacks get put out of slavery and The Northern States wins.
