The Civil War in America was a political and military conflict between 1861 -1865 and lasted for four years.
The war was basically a conflict between the Northern states and the Southern states and had the abolishing of the slavery as a main matter. In about 1804 slavery had been abolished (ophæve) in the Northern states, but was still used in the Southern states . Here they used the slaves in the fields when they grew tobacco, cotton, rice, corn and sugar.
The Northern states were more modern than the Southern states. The Southern states were more based on agriculture.
When Abraham Lincoln was elected to President in America in 1860 the tensions grew bigger, and the question of the slavery was a big problem for the union of states. Abraham Lincoln came from the state Illinois which is the same state that President Barack Obama comes from. In 1861 February seven southern states broke away from the union. In April the same year the war broke out, and four new states joined (jont) the rebels from the south.
The war was very bloody. More then one million people were killed or disabled.(dis-abled)
The rebels from south wanted to go out of the union. But the northern states would not have this.
