Slavery has been a part of the South American culture until the mid-60s. When the South began to grow tobacco, cotton and sugar, they needed some people to do their work. So in 1650 the south states, Africa and Europe started a trade with gold, tobacco, cotton and slavery. The Black people had been inferior persons. They word because they could handle the water. 12 years old boys worked also and many slaves died.

The Black people hadn’t any civil rights. They were slaves for the people in south.
In 1861, Lincoln was president and that was a good reason for the south states to remove the country from north so they could be a country for them self. Later in 1861 the south and north went to war about slavery.
Lincoln was against slavery, so he was the president for the north states and the south states had another president. His named was Jefferson Davis.
The war lasted 4 years and many people were died. In 1865 when the war end, the south gave up, and Lincoln was the 16 president of the United States. 1.030.000 men were ben killed in the war. That was 3% of the population.
