The young boy, has two different role models in this point of his life. He has the old man, who raised him and is like a father for him, and then he has the soldiers, who he wants to be just like. The young boy was born in the end of world war II, and he is now around six years old. That's why he does not realise the seriousness of the war. H H plays soldier with the cart that the old man has build for him for his birthday.
The old man does not like that the boy is playing with his cart, like if it was a tank. T bad things and the seriousness of the situation. He just wants to get away from the war, and be where there is peace. So he takes the boy to a place in the woods, where there is this peace and quiet, that the old man is looking for, but the boy would rather like to be in a place t I a place with a old dysfunctional tank, and the boy finds it very interesting because he thinks that war elements are cool, and he runs away from the old man, so he can play in the tank while the old man is sleeping in the peaceful place.
