Many Danes migrate to the U.S.A in the 1900th. Most of them kept in contact with their families back home by letters, but their children and grandchildren had in most cases no interest in the old country, so the mailing stopped when the older generation died.
When the Americans in the 70s and 80s started looking for their ancestral roots, it was often in vain, unless they were incredibly lucky.
A Danish lady was in 1985 on vacation in U.S.A. Her family hadn’t in more than one generation heard from their American relatives. In U.S.A busiest airport she stood in line at the check-in, when she suddenly couldn’t believe her own eyes. On the suitcase in front of her in the line she sees an unusual surname and an American first name. The suitcase belonged to the grandchild of her grandfather’s brother, who traveled to U.S.A in 1910
