Over the years since 1600, when the arrival of the first slave ship began in America, black people were oppressed by the white people and did not have many human rights. They were in the sub-class in relation to the perception of what a human is. The black people were tortured, killed and not accepted in the vicinity of the whites. Today, after Barack Obama was elected as the President of the United States in 2008, the attitudes to the situation of black people or African Americans are very different around the world.
In the commentary, “Black is being seen in a whole new light”, 2009, Yolanda Young argues that because of Barack Obamas entry as President of the United States, the general view on black people has changed. Yolanda says that for a woman the dark skinned color to be admired, suggests a cultural paradigm shift, which means throughout time something big and changeable, may have happened to put the blacks on a brighter side. Yolanda supports her argument by adding two researches about implicit racial prejudice showing that after Obamas election in 2008, more white and black people prefer blacks and according to her commentary the paradigm shift may be because of the election of Obama or his wife’s, Michelle Obamas, ascension to First Lady Of the United State.
