People are put in jail because we need to punish the criminal people. We also do it to feel safe. We feel unsafe when murders are around us. An example could be Peter Lundin. His a murderer. He has killed his wife and children, where he cut them into pieces and distributed the pieces around their property. He went to jail because he is a psychopath and criminal. You do not feel safe when people like him go free. We do also put the criminal people in jail because we have a hope of that they maybe would change their view on the criminal things they have done so when they come out from jail, that the wont do it again. However, there would always be people in the prison who do not change and continue the criminal path. The consequences for people who is in jail is depend on what they did. If you for example is a murderer, you probably get in jail for lifetime and if you have committed vandalism or struck a police officer, then you probably would get some years in jail.

In the film ‘The Shawshank Redemption’ they all say that they haven’t done anything criminal except the person Red. His the only person who wants to admit what he have done. I think that that is a good example of that they are embarrassed about what they did, and maybe learned the lesson about not to do criminal stuff. That is a good example of that they learn not do it again. We do also see that the people who have been in jail for a long time do not do criminal stuff in the prison and that do also refer to that they change their point of view.
