The poem ‘’My City’’ is from 2012 and it’s written by the poet, who goes by the name, George the Poet. The poem is shortly about the forgotten parts of London, and the high ethnicity differences. It talks about the forgotten corners of the capital, away from the city and the touristic palaces into the impoverished of the outer market towns. The poem explores London’s many remains of the real defining quality, the contrast of how wealth and poverty just rest around the streets in every corner. All of that is described in Georg the Poet’s poem, it’s all explained with passion, because it’s something that is important to him.

It’s a known fact, that London has one of the biggest multiculturalist populations, which we also did experience in our study trip to London. We visited placed where no tourist normally would visit, we experienced those awkward interactions Georg the Poet refers to in the poem, and we experienced the forgotten variety’s of the spice in life in the forgotten corners of London.

Georg the Poet starts his poet with the first line ‘’My city has a lot of faces’’, which is a figurative way of saying, that his city is filled with multiculturalism. London is filled with different ethnicities, which consist of 30% minorities and 300 languages, as it says in the poem. Although the real only thing that separates them are their race, social class and economy, as Georg the Poet says in the poem ‘’I see different coloured hands outstretching for more’’, by that he means that money is never enough. He says that he’s from an elegant city, although it’s full of violent crime and gangs, for him it’s just a phase, because soon the economy will be rising tremendously, while other people will be watching from the sidelines. The fact that he says that he’s from an elegant city can also be seen as an ironic way, meaning that he admits to be from the ghetto, where nothing will ever change, unless they get attention from the state, and that’s why he is trying to get the medias attention by publishing this poem.
