Good evening students at London School of Economics. I am as the PR assistant of Tesco Plc. been asked to give a speech to you regarding Tesco’s current situation. We are currently experiencing some issues in the firm but before I move on to that I would like to tell you some facts about Tesco and its history.
Tesco was giving life for the first time in 1919 when Jack Cohen started selling groceries from a stall in London. He achieved to make a profit of £1 on sales of £4 his very first day. After that day Tesco has evolved on record time and is are today known as the biggest supermarket chain of the entire Britain. Aside from Britain, Tesco is located in 11 different countries such as China, India, Poland and so on. Today Tesco have 500,000+ employees worldwide and have over 7500 stores if franchises are including. Every year Tesco prevailing upon at making a more than acceptable turnover and earnings but in every firm there is ‘ups’ and ‘downs’ as well as in Tesco.
Last year Tesco experienced a quiet big ‘down’ when the firm’s market share dropped by 3,6% over a single year which is a record for fastest rate in larger supermarket chains. Tesco could after this catastrophe, greet on the firm new Chief Executive, Dave Lewis. According to the medias Mr Lewis had to be looking for a challenge in fact that he was set on an unenviable task to turn the juggernaut of a supermarket around.
