First of all, I am very happy to be here today at your school and I want to get your attention for the next ten minutes. My name is Caroline and I am a PR assistant at Tesco. I am here today, to tell about some of Tesco’s current problems and tell about the company’s effort to solve them. I have worked for Tesco the past five years, so I have experienced the development and the whole situation in general before and after the problems.

Now you are probably wondering: What has been the toughest problem for Tesco?

Well, there is not only one answer to that question.

Tesco’s market share on the UK stock market has fallen by 20% and in January Tesco had a shock profit warning. Phillip Clarke (the new boss) has been criticized for the ill-fated promotion in the U.K and overall the customers rated Tesco very bad.

That is four very serious problems to solve. People think that Phillip Clarke needs to do a lot of things, to get this company on its feet again.

Their big shock profit warning was off course based on the critic to Phillip Clarke and all the negative comments. On the internet the customers were really disappointed and were leaving comments as: “staff are completely disinterested” and “store rarely has enough carrier bags … often to leave food at the till”. They also thought there were too few employees, a lot of empty spaces in the stores and the quality was decreased. Besides that, some experts said that Tesco’s stores were “too industrial” and “lack warmth”. They believed that the stores were boring as a fabric and cynical cold.
