Welcome to all of the business students that have decided to come to Tesco headquarters today!
My name is Hatice, and I am the PR assistant at Tesco. I have been employed in Tesco for four years. I am happy to work in Tesco and enjoy my work. As a PR assistant I have been asked to give a speech on Tesco to you business students at London School of Economics. I am here to tell you about Tesco's economy and the problems it has faced during the last 12 months as well as comment on the company's efforts to resolve them.
Tesco was a company with many supermarkets around the world. For four years they have been one of the leading supermarkets, where the economy has been to follow the strategy of our company. However, our company has moved towards a negative direction in the past 12 months. Sales have decreased by 20% because Tesco is not appealing to customers. Customers simply choose other supermarkets that seem more attractive.
How can we solve this problem, and attract customers to our supermarket again? Losing 20% in such a short time is a major issue for our company. Tesco will have to spend nearly £400m a year for the next two years to get its house in order. After paring back the number of the staff working in each store by some 25 %, and with plans to hire more than 22,000 new employees will cost another £250m, they 40 calculate.
