What Happened in the Mountains?

  Pete was getting ready to visit Zoe when his phone rang. Two kids had been  reported missing in the mountains. Pete wrote a text message to Zoe in which he  said sorry for not coming. He had to help finding the kids. Soon he got an answer.  Zoe wished him good luck.    Pete went up in the mountains with his team of four. It was raining so it went very  slowly. It took almost three hours for them to reach the small hut from where the kids  were gone. They asked the crying parents about which way their kids might have  been walking. The parents didn’t know that but they had an idea. Last year they  made a cabin longer up at the mountain but it rinsed away in the winter. Maybe the  children wanted to build a new cabin without the help of their parents.    Pete and his team went on towards the cabin but when they reached the ruins they  were only met by puddles and a small river. The kids were no place to be seen but  the team did not give up. They continued the whole night and the following day too.  In spite of their stunning work there was still no sign of the kids.    When the second day was near its ending Pete wrote to Zoe again. This time Zoe  wrote that they should make sure to hurry because it wasn’t sure that to small kids  could survive in the mountains on their own. Pete knew that and they had also asked  for reinforcement as a helicopter. It was circling around above their heads but it  hadn’t found anything interesting yet. Pete’s teammates were losing their faith but  Pete made them change their mind. They could not give up before the kids were  found.    And then on the third day Pete heard a small crying voice to the right of the trail. He  searched after the source and when he found it he called for the other from his team.  In front of Pete lay a seven year old girl and her two year younger brother. Pete was  happier than he ever thought it was possible. But he also knew that it wasn’t over.
