The movie starts out with showing us how the whites and the blacks are so different to each other’s. They are coming with the great example, as we have seen many other places out from the movie, with the water fountains for colored and whites. Afterwards we see a burning church that tells us that the Ku Klux Klan is in the movie as well.

Later on, when Mr. Ward and Mr. Anderson gets’ hungry they find a little diner. Mr. Ward is going to the blacks part of the diner to ask a black guy a few questions. Everyone is looking at him, and the black guy refuse to answer on his questions, and immediately leaves the table.

In the movie we often see that the black people and some of the white people is afraid to talk to the FBI. They are scared of the Ku Klux Klan and the law. If they say too much or something that helps the FBI, Ku Klux will get them, and kill them.

Mr. Ward and Mr. Anderson continue their journey to a black people church, burned to the ground, to find someone who might be able to help them. The most blacks left, only a boy with his father is back. The boy is quite poor, but with huge courage. He is not afraid of Mr. Ward and his questions or the Ku Klux. Later on when the Ku Klux Klan is raiding another kind of black only church, that boy, is just standing still and watching, waiting for them to beat him up. He doesn’t show fear at all. He is only begging to god for mercy or something likely.
