At the beginning of the movie, we see two fountains. One is for white people, one is for colored people. First we see a white man who drinks of the fountain for white people, and so we see a boy who drinks of the fountain for colored people. After a short while, we see a burning church.
We see three boys, two white and one colored, who are the 3 civil rights workers, who drive a car down a long road, and they are being chased by what they think is the police. In fact, some members of the Ku Klux Klan and the deputy, who is also member of the KKK.
The boys are stopped in a field, and members of the KKK shot the 3 boys, and hid their bodies.
Two FBI agents are sent to a place where the boy was helping the colored people to vote. The sheriffs office is not much to help FBI agents. They believe that civil rights workers have played them a trick, and sitting up in New York and laughing at them, though they know they are dead.
Mr. Anderson is one of the FBI agents, and is an older man from the South. The other FBI agent is a young city boy named Mr. Ward. Mr. Anderson and Mr. Ward have two different ways to try to resolve the case on. Mr. Ward will follow rules and do exactly what needs to be done, but Mr. Anderson will follow his own rules.
