Stephen King wrote “The Man Who Loved Flowers” in 1977; the short story is giving us an insight to all the thoughts by all the people in the story except the young man the short story is about. The theme is love, and that is why the end of the story is so interesting. King has written the short story in third-person limited narrator.
The short story: “The Man Who Loved Flowers” takes place in New York’s Third Avenue in May 1963; it’s a beautiful early evening in spring. A young man who is deeply in love, is wandering the streets without a single concern in his life, he makes everyone he meet smile. At this time everything seems to be completely normal, there is not a tiny thing that could gives us an impression that this could end up completely wrong.
The short story is beginning in a really positive way; he is waving and smiling to an older lady. “The young man passed the flower stand and the sound of the bad news faded”. (P. 176 L. 17) We are not thinking that the bad news has a connection with the young man because he seems to be in love, and giving everyone he meets a smile on their faces, and makes everyone thinking back to his or hers young days, where they had the same feeling: being in love.
