Rhetorical analysis of Arnold Schwarzenegger's 2004 speech

In 2004, Arnold Schwarzenegger held a famous, touching speech, to get Americans to vote for George W. Bush, to run as president of the United States for another four years.

Arnold Schwarzenegger was born in Austria, and immigrated to America when he was 21. It had been his dream since he was 10 years old. Before he became a politician, his biggest interests were bodybuilding and acting and he was very successful. He is using his earlier career in the beginning of his speech;

“This is like winning an Oscar! ..As if I would know! Speaking of acting, one of my movies was called “True Lies”. It’s what the democrats should have called their convention”

We have all seen Terminater. We all know that Schwarzenegger was a good actor, and that he knew what he was doing. That is why it is smart of him to use his former acting career in his speech. It makes it more personal, and it makes the audience feel that he knows what he is talking about. It is also a very smart move because it reaches all ages. Both young and old people love movies, and this speech goes out to everyone who is interested in politics, no matter their age.
