Racial discrimination has ruled over the United States of America through many decades. The discrimination of black people has been a nightmare for so many people over the years, and it is still today. Black people can be yelled at on the streets for no reason, black people can be discriminate for no reason and black people can be killed for no reason, just because they are black. Maya Angelou was born in 1928 in the State of Saint Louis, Missouri. She was a former actress, author, singer and activist who fought for the black peoples human rights. Maya Angelou passed away in 2014, her dead touched many people, and one of them was First Lady Michelle Obama, who held a fantastic, touching and incredible speech to Maya Angelou’s memorial ceremony.
The speech was held on the 8th June 2014 at Wake Forest University, where Maya Angelou taught for more than 33 years. The audience were people of Maya Angelou’s life, but also all black people, because the speech laid weight on the topic civil rights and how Michelle Obama, herself has experience to be a black little girl and now the First Lady of the United States of America. Michelle Obamas language in her speech is not very formal, it is an understandable language, which works very well in the speech. Mrs Obama has a very fine intention with her speech, she wants to put focus on all the good and kind full things Maya Angelou has accomplish in her lifetime, because Mrs Obama wants to pay tribute to Maya Angelou as a person, civil rights leader and role model for so many little black girls and black women.
