Mark was exploring London. He loved being a tourist especially around the streets of Soho, visiting the cafés and markets and getting to know the locals.
Suddenly his phone rang. It was his mum calling from Glasgow. “Hi Mark, guess what?”
He could hear the excitement in her voice when she broke the news. He could hardly believe it. It couldn´t be true. He pinched his arm. It was true. He couldn´t help himself; he jumped for joy.
He was in a café when the amazing news came from his mother. He couldn’t believe that he should finally see his dad again. He couldn’t believe that he survived. He almost smashed the coffee cup from pure joy. His dad had been gone for 400 days in the army in Afghanistan. It had been a long while. Especially when his mother was called up from Afghanistan with the bad news about his fathers leg, which was blown up by a bomb. They didn´t know if he would survive. An explosion mutilated his leg, so they were forced to amputate it. It meant nothing to Mark, the main thing was just that he survived after the bomb was blown up and that he was on his way home now. He could finally sit back and take a deep breath after a tough year with worries and the fear of never going to see his dad again.
