Ku Klux comes from the Greek word kyklos, meaning circle. It started in the southern United States on March 3 1865. The Klan has typically seen itself as a Christian organization.

It started during Reconstruction at the end of Civil War, the Klan quickly mobilized as a vigilante group to intimidate Southern blacks and any white who’s against them would help then and prevent them from having basic civil rights.

Reconstruction was rebuilding the United States after the Civil War.

Ku Klux Klan is a hate group. A group of people that want to hurt and be mean to other people. The Ku Klux Klan, with its long history of violence is the most infamous and oldest of American hate groups. Black Americans have typically been the Klan’s primary target, but it also has attacked Jews, immigrants, and homosexuals and Catholics.

White men on horseback go out at night and terrorize African-Americans.

Nathan Bedford Forrest

Six college students founded the Ku Klux Klan in the town Pulaski, Tennessee. Former Confederate officers, the six men organized as a social club or fraternity and spent their time in horseplay and galloping around town in the evening. They were surprised that their appearances were causing fear among former slaves in the area. They quickly took advantage of this and the group began a rapid expansion. Various factions formed in different towns, which led to a meeting in April 1867 to discuss rules and organizational structure.
