We all make mistakes, but some mistakes will haunt us for the rest of our lives, except if we get a second chance. The short story “Save as many as you ruin” written By Simon Van Booy, is exactly about that. The story revolves around Gerard, who is the protagonist, he has done some mistakes and now he has the chance to make it right again. The question is, if he can make up for his mistakes.
Gerard is as mentioned earlier the protagonist, he is approximately 40 years old, he lives in Manhattan with his eight years old daughter, Lucy. We don’t get to know what his profession is, but it doesn’t seem like he is in need of anything. We know from the story that he is handsome, and has slept with many women, (page 2, line 34) but he has only loved one, and her name is, Laurel. Laurel is not Lucy’s mother, but she was Gerard’s girlfriend for some month until he cheated on her with Lucy mother.
Lucy’s mother is Izzy, she was Gerard’s lover, Lucy has never met her mother, because she moved to Hollywood, when Lucy was new born, and four years after she died.
