I’m here today to talk about food waste and actually make money out of it. Well let me start off by telling you some important facts about food waste. Did you know that approximately 1.3 tons of is wasted every year? And up to 40 percent of the food in the United States is never eaten. Now let me present an example for you guys. I want you to empty your minds and imagine this idea of saving the wasted food. I know in Denmark they usually have a bake-off section in supermarkets, but their way to waste food is different. Back in time they used to waste a huge amount of bread, cakes, sausage rolls etc. But then they developed a better way to sell the wasted food because in the supermarkets some close at 9 - or 10 p.m. and the food that’s left in the bake-off gets wasted, because they get fresh bread, cakes sausage rolls and many other variants delivered in the morning. Most supermarkets put 50 percent on all their food in the bakeoff at about 7 p.m. to closing time., which results in less food waste. But they still waste food, anyhow the new system has reduced food waste by a lot which is a positive. All supermarkets have sorting bins where they throw food out and I’ve seen people look in the bins and take the food home instead of it being wasted. So, what if we established a campaign that collects wasted food from supermarkets and deliver it to the affected communities with food shortages. Here, you could be able to work (maybe volunteer) and offer a service to an affected community for a reasonable price. Which combats food waste and food shortages in curtain communities.
