I have been looking forward to being here, and I hope I can teach you something about Tesco and our business strategy. My name is [NAVN A] and I am the PR assistant at Tesco. As the PR assistant, it is my job to make sure, that the good image of Tesco remains, so here I am, holding a speech to you at London School of Economics. If you have any questions or comments along the way you can just raise your hand, and then I will happily answer your questions. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions at the end and if anyone is shy you can ask me your questions after the speech. Today I will talk to you about Tesco, which challenges we are facing, what we have done to solve them and what changes we have made, and at last what we expect of the future.
As you may know, Tesco is a multinational grocery retailer. We have stores in 12 countries where the biggest market is the UK. In total, we have almost 7,000 stores and 476,000 employees around the world. There are so many stores in the UK, that most of the population is within a ten minutes’ drive time from a Tesco store. In fact, we are the third largest retailer in the world measured by profits and fifth largest retailer in the world measured by revenues and the largest retailer in the UK. Actually, one in seven pounds spent in the UK goes to Tesco.
