The song homecoming by Kanye West gives us the illusion or idea that the song is a love song to a girl named Windy. However, this is not the case, the song is dedicated to the city Chicago where he grew up. He expresses his love and gratitude to the city for moulding and shaping him into the person he is today. Kanye believes if he grew up in another place he wouldn’t have achieved what he has today.
First of all Chicago’s nickname is Windy City and the girl in the lyrics is called Windy as well. If you do happen to know a bit about Chicago, then you’d know that the weather there is often quite windy, therefore Windy City.
Secondly Chicago is a big city. So when Kanye says “In the night time her face lit up, so astounding.” In the second stanzas, line 10. Which literally means at night Chicago lights up, from all the streetlights, apartments, skyscrapers etc. all cramped together.
But thirdly and the most obvious clue is that in the fourth stanzas, bottom of the line he sings: “If you don’t know by now, I’m talking about Chi-Town!” Which is shortened from Chicago City.
