Martin Luther King

Marlene: Martin Luther King was an American Baptist minister and activist who was a leader in the AfricanAmerican Civil Rights Movement. He led the Montgomery bus boycott in 1955, and helped found the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in 1957. King also helped to organize the March on Washington in 1963, where he delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech. On October 14, 1964, King received the Nobel Peace Prize for combating racial inequality. King died April 4 1968. Nur: The Montgomery bus boycott, a seminal event in the Civil Rights Movement, was a political and social protest campaign against the policy of racial segregation on the public transit system of Montgomery. The campaign lasted from December 5, 1955 - when Rosa Parks, an African American woman, was arrested for refusing to surrender her seat to a white person - to December 20, 1956, when a federal ruling took effect, and led to a United States Supreme Court decision that declared the Alabama and Montgomery laws requiring segregated buses to be unconstitutional.
