Introduction I have chosen the topic martin luther king, because i ?nd it interesting and it is relevant to become acquainted with him and the civil rights. "All people are created equal," says the American constitution. However, even though these words are written in the Constitution, the words never really come into its power. American society was for many years affected by being racially segregated. A man would change this. This man was Martin Luther King, a Baptist pastor from Georgia. He wanted to get back to the equality, as Lincoln pointed out in 1789., He would do it in a peaceful manner, resulting in his nickname "the American Gandhi." About Martin Luther King Martin Luther King Jr. was born in the late twenties and grew up in a christian family, where both his father and grandfather were ministers. He was one of the greatest leader in the African-american civil rights movement. He knew how he should speak to the people to get their attention. He knew what he had to say and do without being ethically wrong. It was hard to be an advocate for the civil rights. He was unfortunately attacked and arrested many times. But more and more Americans grew to understand that it was wrong to treat black people differently from white people. In 1963, Martin Luther King led a quarter million people in a march to Washington, D.C. Where he gave his famous “I Have a Dream” speech. He spoke about his hopes for America. He said people should be judged by their hearts, not by their skin color. Although Martin Luther King was a powerful leader and had many followers, not everybody liked him. In 1968 where Dr. King only was 39 years old, he got shot and murdered. The killer was James Earl Ray. He was a racist, most disliked the changes that Martin Luther King was involved in. He may have thought that if he killed one of the leaders of the movement, he could stop the change. Martin Luther King was one of the main leaders of the civil rights movement. What is the Civil Rights Movement? The civil rights movement in the 60s can be de?ned as a mass popular movement to secure African Americans equal access and opportunities for the basic privileges and rights of U.S. Citizenship. Today the term "civil rights" is also used to describe the advancement of equality for all people regardless of race, sex, age, disability, national origin, religion and so on. The civil rights movement centered on the American South, where the African American population was concentrated and where racial inequality in education, economic opportunity, and the political and legal processes was most blatant. However, it was after these years that fundamentally important events took place regarding civil rights and they were to gain a place in history. For example the Montgomery Bus Boycott, as i will touch on tendons.
