His life - ups and downs

Childhood

Martin was born on 15 January, 1929, in Atlanta, in the south of the US. All though Martins life, he met racism every day. He could not use certain toilets, he should sit in the back of the bus, he had to sit in the back if he went to the cinema.

Family

He had a brother and a sister and their grandmother also lived with the family. Martins father was a banker and a Baptist in the church in Atlanta.

He married Coretta on June 18, 1953. He had two sons, Dexter and Martin III, and two daughters, Yolanda and Bernice.

Education

Martin went to Booker T. Washington High School, where he was quarterback of the football team. In 1945, at the age of fifteen, he entered Atlanta's Morehouse College. Subsequently he attended to Boston University, where he earned his Ph.D.
