It has now been 42 years since the black civil rights leader; Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was killed, only 39 years old. During the years from 1954-1968, Dr. King fought hard for equality and right for the colored people. And succeeded. Dr. King sacrificed a lot to get rights and equality for black people in the US, even his life some would say. Even though, he knew his life was on the line, Dr. King continued to fight for what he believed was right.
The difference between Dr. King and other black civil rights leaders was that Dr. King’s strategies were non-violent which, along with his speech “I have a dream,” made him known all over the world. Dr. King’s true gift was that he was a great speaker, and on 28 August 1963, Dr. King delivered one of the most moving speeches in his life:
“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by their color, but by the content of their character.”
His dream still lives on…
Martin Luther King Jr., born Michael Luther King Jr. was born January 15, 1929. His family was very middleclass. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia, which was one of the states in the South where the racial discrimination was largest. Despite of that, young Martin hadn’t felt the poverty and humiliation, like many of the other black people lived in. Martin Luther King Jr., was son of a Baptist minister, one of the city’s most meaningful blacks, Martin Luther King Sr. (Daddy King).
