Sometimes it can be difficult for a teenager to understand his parents, and it is often a big challenge. All individuals are born at different times. Our parents’ generation has a hard time accepting the changes of the present generation. One could ask himself: Why is it difficult for the current generation to understand our parents or previous generations? The former world champion in tennis, Andre Agassi, has written an autobiography, called Open, which was released in 2009. In a five-page excerpt of his autobiography, we get a glimpse of his past with insight into his upbringing and childhood. This excerpt highlights the importance of role models and the early life of a champion, with a clear emphasis on the irregular circumstances of Andre Agassi’s childhood. This text will therefore work and concentrate on these generations’ relationships with one another.
The text stresses and plays a lot on the idea of failure and success, which especially comes across in terms of the relationship between the respective members of the family. Agassi’s father is the predominant figure in his upbringing and childhood. He was brought up in poverty, but he had risen above the stricken conditions of poverty and gained some success in his life. However, Andre’s father never managed to become successful in relation to sports even though he used to be a boxer. This lead him to get frustrated with his own children, who should and must complete what he could not accomplish:
