Young People of the Year 2014

Joel Davis is just a normal 21 year old man, but for only two years ago he won the Young People of the Year award. Joel comes from a very poor family. It was a wonder they even had the money to send him to school. His father was never home, because of his job, which was minimum-wage. Because of that, Joel had to take care of his very ill mother. She had a terrible decease that could not be cured. He did not have anyone who could help him with his homework, so he needed someone who could actually do that. And with his sick mother, everything was harder. when his mother died, he decided it was time for a change. He started a tutoring service. To this day more than 170 children get the help they need from this service. It has already shown that children from poor families get higher grades. The service uses many university students as the tutors. Both the tutors and the students are all very pleased with this service. The tutors get a chance to give their knowledge to another person and the student learns. Joel has set up a website in the hopes that his idea will spread and others will take it, and use it as inspiration for them to start something themselves. His idea has been copied and because of that, now even more children get the necessary help for them to ?nish school. Joel won 500 pounds for his initiative. This young man deserves so much for this. He has done so much good for so many people. He is inspiring, smiling, kind and he is so strong. I can’t imagine going trough all the things he did. Not having any money and not being able to do well in school. He has turned everything upside down. He is sel?ess and luckily others have followed his lead and is now helping other people too. He was able to push trough even after his mother was dead. It he isn’t a role model, I don’t know who is.
