Age Discrimination and Youth Freedom

I am exhausted with constantly being discriminated due to my age. I deserve to be treated as one's eaquel and demand as much respect as anyone else.

I am a member of a youth party and I adore it, but I am not blind to the looks I receive when I disclose my age. Raised eyebrows followed by the elevator look. It is as I am not good enough because of my age. I get that I may lack life experience, but what I most certainly do not lack is ambition. Judging people by their age is not something I approve of. My generation is the next to come, and treating us like we are unable of having an opinion is not the right way to prepare us for the upcoming reality. School is a step of the way, preparing us to face the real world, but it is only a step in the wrong direction when adults refuse to grant us a chance. I believe that mutual respect is one step closer to democracy.

In Denmark, one is not allowed to vote before one turns eighteen. According to me, that is a very suitable age because one is also allowed to get a drivers license, buy strong alcohol and get married. It makes perfect sense that all these things are allowed at one certain age. If one compare to another country, America for example, the voting age, drivers license age and buying alcohol age are three different numbers. The fact that they allow sixteen year olds to drive is a catastrophe, and so it has shown. Drivers (both male and female) under the age of 18 account for 30% - $26 billion dollars of the total costs of car accidents in America. That sounds absolutely absurd, because it is so. Had the same thing happened in Denmark I am sure that the drivers license age would be raised to prevent as many accidents. On the other hand, this is a superb way of including the young in the real world, and learning them to face the consequences. Maybe danes could learn something from that.
