I’m writing to you concerning something called “Farm to Fork”, which I would like to share my personal opinions about. This initiative is organized by the British supermarket chain Tesco. The main objective with the project is to create a healthier relationship between youths and their food. By expanding the young generation’s knowledge about healthy food and its origin, we can improve many people’s eating habits. This is without doubt a huge step when it comes to the fight against obesity - a problem we as humanity are facing on a worldwide basis. As we all know obesity increases the chance of getting various diseases. These diseases can among other things be both heart diseases and type 2 diabetes. Just take USA as an example, where 9,3 percent of the population had diabetes 2 in 2012. This corresponds to nearly 30 million people! As this statistic makes clear, we need to take action in some way.
Even though I think it’s each individual’s own responsibility to make the correct choices of food, there should still be given a helping hand to guide people in the right direction. Not everybody has the resources or time to participate in real field-trips. Therefor it’s a great idea to give everybody the opportunity, by arranging online field trips. Here they can even ask questions, if they are willing to satisfy their curiosity and learn more. If we want the learning to succeed and be as effective as possible, it’s important to make it both funny and interesting for the pupils. By visiting places they wouldn’t normally be able to visit, the pupils will be more active, and thereby increase their ability to learn. Furthermore it helps them gain insight in the food we eat in our daily life. All of this will hopefully make pupils realize the importance of an optimal diet.
