The story is about a man called Tobias. Tobias used to be a teacher at a high school but was fired. Later on he got some other jobs. But he was fired there too.
He lived with his girlfriend Miriam. She worked and paid rents and food while he was supposed to look for a job. But Tobias didn’t work hard to get a job. He loafed around at home, played guitar and ate potato chips. One day she came home from work and Tobias still hadn’t a job. She sent him out to buy dinner for them. 2 hours later he came home after a visit at Nature’s Harvest. He hadn’t bought any food, only vitamins for himself.
Miriam had had enough. She told him that she wanted him out of the house. Tobias just shrugged unconcernedly.
3.a. What do we learn about Tobias?
We learn about Tobias through his actions. He has been a Spanish and History teacher in a High School. But he was fired. So he became a bartender. He was also fired there. And before he went on unemployment insurance he worked as a night clerk on a hotel, but was obviously fired.
While he was on unemployment insurance he loafed around in his girlfriend’s apartment. He was lazy and spent all his time eating potato chips and playing guitar. For Miriam it must be much like having a child around.
