San Francisco San Francisco is a wonderful city, which is placed beautifully next to San Francisco Bay. Many of the city streets are incredibly steep so you have to be an unusually good motorist to drive safely around in the crooked town. The San Franciscans are very proud to have “The Crookedest street in the World”. In many years the old cable car has been the big tourist attraction. You simply haven’t been to San Francisco if you haven’t taken a ride in the cable car. Another must when you are in San Francisco is to visit the prison on Alcatraz, a little island in the bay. The minister of justice Robert Kennedy closed the jail in the 6o’ies and the buildings don’t look comfortable. But the view from the jail towards the Golden Gate Bridge in west and towards San Francisco in south is completely unique. In 1906 the town witnessed a violent earthquake, which immediately started a terrible fire. Many of the beautifully painted wooden houses were burned down to the ground. But since that, the citizens have rebuilt the town courageously and recently they have started to build huge skyscrapers. For the time being San Francisco can’t after all pride itself of any as big as Sears tower in Chicago in New York’s World Trade Centre. However an earthquake as bad as that in 1906, can easily strike the city again because the town, unfortunately lies on the Andreas Fault.
