Boyz N The Hood

Summary: In South Central Los Angeles, the boy Tre Styles lives with his divorced mother Reva Styles. When Tre is suspended for three days at school, Reva decides to send him to live in Crenshaw with his father, the businessman Furious Styles, "to become a man". Tre befriends his neighbors, the half-brothers Doughboy and Ricky Baker, and soon they become best friends. Seven years later, Tre is an educated teenager preparing to join the university; Ricky is an athlete, expecting to join the university with scholarship since he is a great football player; and Doughboy is a small time criminal that has been arrested several times. But they live in a dangerous neighborhood where dreams are shattered by bullets. Main characters: Tre Styles: Tre Styles is the main character, he got suspended from his school when he was younger, so his divorced mother decided that he should live with his father, so can learn to be a “man”. Tre is black and he has short hair, he seems to be kind of muscular. He haven't lost his virginity because he is scared of being a father. He is a friendly guy. Reva Styles: Reva is Tre’s mother, she sent Tre to live with his father because she want him to be a man. She planned in the meanwhile that she could study some more so she could get a great job and earn some money so she could buy a nice house for her and Tre. Reva cares a lot for Tre. Furious Styles: Furious Styles is Tre’s father. He's a businessman, and he got Tre at a very young age (I think he was 17 years old) Furious is a clever man, he knows what the people outside the hood are trying to do. Furious cares a lot for Tre, and he tries to make Tre use condoms, because he doesn't want him to get any STDs, or be a father at a young age. I think that the surroundings in Knife-edge is better than they are in “Boyz n the hood” There aren't really any murders in the book, as there is in the movie. It also seems like that there are a lot more “street fighting”. The movie is more brutal than the book. The gangs in “Boyz n the hood” have guns, and they actually kill people. And in Knife-edge they just threaten people and harass them.
