Black Lives Matter (BLM), international social movement, formed in the United States in the year of 2013, dedicated to fighting racism and anti-Black violence, especially in the form of police brutality.
How did BLM start: The movement started in June 2013, following the
killing of an unarmed 17-year-old blackboy, Trayvon Martin.
Trayvon was just going back home to he’s dad after he had bought some skittles. He was wearing a hoodie, and because of that a neighborhood watch named George Zimmerman thought he looked ‘up to no good’. And just shot him.
George Zimmerman claimed it was self-defense and
was acquitted. To many, this was yet another example of anti-black racism in the
American judicial system. In response, Alicia Garza posted what she called “a love story to black people” on Facebook, and this post was later shared with the hashtag
#BlackLivesMatter. And that’s how it all started.
BLM really got a lot of attention in the year 2014., when another a white
police officer shot and killed the unarmed black teenager, Michael Brown, in Ferguson,
Missouri. After the shooting, the body was left lying in the street for more than four hours, and
his death caused protests and angry riots to break out in Ferguson. The Black Lives Matter
