The bus boycotts
The intentional refusal to use or pay for something.
The Bus Boycott was a civil-rights protest during which African Americans refused to ride city buses in Montgomery, Alabama, to protest segregated seating.
Four days before the boycott began, Rosa Parks was arrested and fined for refusing to yield her bus seat to a white man.
Results in the desegregation of Montgomery buses after 381 days.
Rosa parks
Rosa Louise McCauley Parks was born in February 4, 1913.
She died in October 24, 2005, when she was 92.
Rosa Parks, an African-American woman, was an activist in the Civil Rights Movement, whom the United States Congress called "the first lady of civil rights”.
Refusal to surrender her seat to a white male passenger on a Montgomery, Albama bus, December 1, 1955.
She became a nationally recognized symbol of dignity and strength in the struggle to end entrenched racial segregation.
Goals of the Civil Rights Movement
End segregation.
Desegregate schools and other public facilities.
Access to jobs and housing.
Reverse “separate but equal”.
Equity in general.
