Martin Luther King, was born on 15 January, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia in the south of the US. He was named after his father. He had a brother and a sister. His grandmother also lived in the family. Their home was in Auburn, Avenue, Atlanta. Martin father was a banker and the family had a comfortable life.
On the evening of Thursday, 1 December, 1955 a black woman called Rosa Parks she got on the bus she was on the way home. She had a hard day at work and she was tired. The bus was crowded. All the seats for black people were taken, so she sat down on a seat in the middle of the bus. At the next stop some white people got on. All except one of them found a seat at the front. There was one white man standing. The rule was that if one white person sad in the middle seats, all the black people had to go the back of the bus. They bus driver told the black people that they needed to go to the back, but Mrs. Parker said NO! The driver called a policeman. When the policeman arrived he asked Mrs. Parker "why didn´t you stand up?" "I didn´t think i should have to" she answered. Then she added "why do you push us?" "I don't know" the policeman answered. "but the law is the law, and you are under arrested". Mrs. Parker was arrested because she had broken the city's segregation laws.
