Nike´s effort to stop people from associating the swoosh with sweatshop isn´t going very well, people are still talking about the bad reputation. Nike isn't trying to hide anything, they do allow the Non Governmental Organisations in, and Nike’s website allow everyone to look through Nike’s information on the company´s “Transparency 101 initiative”.
The importance of having a good image, is big. The company´s future depends on the image. If the image is good, the possibility for the company to be on the market for a longer time is bigger than if the image is bad. If the image is well, there is a better chance that the costumers will buy the company’s products.
Working conditions in the developing countries can be ensured best by, the consumers considering where the product is made, and under which conditions. The activist organizations can demonstrate, if the product has been made under bad circumstances, and make people aware of the working conditions. If the demonstrators catch people´s attention the company might change the working conditions.
The government can ensure that the working conditions are well, by checking up on the companies in the developing countries. They can also make certain rules, for example how many working hours, the employees can have. The government can decide the age limit of an employee. To have an age limit will prevent the company from hiring underaged employees. So there are many ways to prevent bad working conditions.
