I am a student from XXXXXX College and I would like to answer your questions.
If you ask me how important I think a company’s reputation is to me I would say it is very important. A company has to survive on its image and reputation has a great leverage on a company’s growth. It is important that consumers prefer you as a company rather than the rival company, and that can be difficult if the company for example has been in the media for child labour. Consumers will deselect them because the consumers want to trust the company in their production and that they are not using child labour. As a company it can be difficult to rebuild trust among consumers. Further more consumers more and more prefer environmentally desirable products, because it is a very important factor for our future on earth, so if a company directly say that they are not willing to reorganise their production regarding environmentally desirable, they will probably not be so popular among consumers.
Regarding the countries where the company has their production has an influence on the consumer’s choice as well. If the clothes for example are made in England or Italy people often think it is higher quality than in Bangladesh or the like. Additionally, it is also important that if the company has their production in a developing country that the production is under acceptable circumstances. This is leading us to the next point – which social responsibility initiatives companies could take in developing countries. They could and should audit the workers conditions and they should be more calculated about ethics. They could also use good working conditions as a commercial to urge consumers to deselect products that are not produced under good working conditions. To change the Third Worlds circumstances the consumers has to demand more transparency on production then the companies could imitate the demands and be more aware about it.
