The yearly (annual) show at London Palladium is about to begin. Just like last year the stage will be full of young women in bathing suits. The event is going to be transmitted to a lot of countries if the English television technicians are not on strike. The compere is just about to introduce the girls, as the stage collapses, and the light goes out. What is going to happen? Will the contest be cancelled?
- No, we are informed that it will continue in fifteen minutes. Now the show is on again. Now the compere has to ask the young girls. “What do you wish from life?” he asks all of the girls. “I hope I will become a success and be famous”, the beautiful Miss Uruguay says. Miss India is more exact: “I want to be a doctor.” And Miss Israel says: “If I am not going to win the title, I will be joining the army, when I come home.” Outside the women’s libber is demonstrating. They want to abolish beauty competitions, which they compere with cattle shows. They declare: “We cannot accept this exhibition of women. We are not going to get equality between the genders, as long as the women are treated like pure sex symbols.” Nevertheless it is decided, that next year’s Miss World competition will be held in London on the twentieth of November.
