Analyse af 'The Sandwich Factory' af Jason Kennedy

In this short story,“The Sandwich Factory”, does these problematics takes place. The story is written by Jason Kennedy, and concerns a man who gets a job on a low-paid sandwich factory. He experiences some strange things and has a lot of thoughts.

The story is chronological and monotone, just like the main character describes his everyday working process. Even his countless thoughts are very monotone, because they are going in circles. He seems like an insensitive and sarcastic type of person, who is just tired of his life and he feels that everything is unimportant, “I would sit at home in the morning, listening to Joy Division, compensating for the lack of meaning in the coming shift, and wondering if I was going to be killed.” (P. 1, LL. 4-6). His sense of humor is mainly sarcastic, patronizing and a little bit difficult to understand, “Because you had to wear a hairnet, a disobedient blue mesh that embodied your sacrifice to the needs of the company.” (P. 1, LL. 7-9). The narrator radiates a patronizing sympathy. The reason he took a job on a sandwich factory, is because he got rejected by the bowling alley. It does not seem like he has that many experiences, that can give him some other job opportunities, because he chooses to work at a sandwich factory instead of something else. The narrator is a first person limited narrator, because he mentions himself as “I”, “I worked at a sandwich factory where a mad kid worked” (P. 1, LL. 2-3). Besides that, the readers hear about the first person's point of view in a restricted field.
