For some people having a low paid job is good enough. We hear about the main character’s meaningless job where mechanization has made the workers job absurd and unnecessary. Having a job where the fear of getting fired or killed in this matter is a terrifying feeling, but for some it is worth the excitement. If you have a lousy job, having a good social network with the coworkers sometimes is the most important fact if you consider leaving your job. This is a short story about a man’s hopes and dreams vanishing into a hateful job.

The short story is told through a first person narrator, which is the main character of the story. This given makes the short story more realistic and it also gives the reader a chance to identify with the narrator. it is also important to stress out the fact that what we are told, is told by the narrators point of view, it is therefore a subjective point of view we can not relay on. The theme in the short story The Sandwich Factory is the mechanization of human beings. Through the narrator we get the impression that the employees are no longer considered as human beings or as individuals, but just one among many. The factory threatens to turn human beings into machines by thwarting the development of their emotions and imaginations and in the end of the story the narrator realizes that he does not want to be a part of the factory any longer.
