As you know, I traveled to South Africa because I needed some adventure in my life. My plan is to see the whole country. The journey started in Cape Town. Cape Town is The Capital of South Africa, and it has about 430 thousand citizens. The two stars hotel room I had ordered back home was nice, and cheap. I thought since I didn’t have all the money in the world, it would be a good idea to spend my money elsewhere than a luxurious hotel. After all, I did come to experience the culture not a hotel. The first attraction I went to was in Johannesburg. There is this museum that I’ve always wanted to see. It’s called The Apartheid Museum. The museum illustrates the apartheid and the 20th century history of South Africa. It was amazing to see the museum with my own eyes, and not some pictures on the internet. However, it was a bit sad, to see what horrible things people can do to each other.
It’s Monday morning. I had a new destination in mind, visiting a school. I wanted to see the differences between schools here in South Africa, and the schools back home. When I arrived, the class had already begun, so no one was outside. When I came in, all the kids looked at me. Guess they didn’t expect to see a white man today. The class continued as if I was not there. I just sat there by the corner, doing nothing. The class ended, and there was a break on 15 minutes. I took a little walk, thinking about how happy and desperate they were to lean. I think is weird, many people back home just take everything for granted. We go to school free, have the best teachers and after high school, we get money as a help if continued studding. However, we still wake up in the morning thinking “uhh” its school time. It’s so eye opening to see all those poor kids, being so happy for having the opportunity to go to school, and not working with their parent for so small and amount of money. They see the glory of knowledge. I walked back to the school to say goodbye, and to thank the teacher for letting me observe.
