The author Nick Hornby switches the roles in his book “About A Boy”

Written by: [NAVN A].

The book is set in 1993 London where the brewing party scene, and grunge scene are growing bigger every day. About a Boy features two main protagonists: Will Freeman, a 36-year-old bachelor, who is fond of his daily routine, and Marcus Brewer, a schoolboy who is a bit eccentric, has a fondness of singing randomly in public, but has a big talent of bringing people together in the weirdest situations.

Will's father wrote a successful Christmas song, the royalties of which have afforded Will the ability to do whatever he wants throughout his life. He spends his huge amounts of free time drinking, taking drugs, and pursuing sexual relations with women, meanwhile Marcus’ parents, are separated, and his mother is suicidal, which effects Marcus and his personality to a very large degree.

The book showcases the 1990´ties in London in the best way possible. The book brings a lot of nostalgia, and Nick Hornby makes sure to bring in every reference to the 90s he knows. The way that the music, the surroundings, and the clothes are described, makes this a very educational book. But that’s not why I read the book. I read the book for the dynamics.
