Skribentens beskrivelse af The Sampler - AnalyseThe narrator in “The Sampler” is who the story is about. The first-person narrator also functions as an observer and shares what he sees with the readers. The narrator is limited to what the shop girl shares with him and what he is seeing in the store. He also knows only about the old man's existence when the shopkeeper tells him about the old man who usually comes almost every week and tastes the puddings. One can easily make assumptions about the old man's past. When he is called a "gentleman", therefore, readers can assume that he was once in a good posture in life. There may be some reasons why he is here in this store |
