I still remember the day, we broke up. It´s 2 years ago now. I just told her I was gay. She was in chock, and couldn’t imagine it. It wasn’t because I didn’t love her anymore, I did. But I just couldn’t. It wasn’t the real me.
After some weeks, she texted me, and told me she understood it, and that she appreciates my honesty. Today she is one of my best friends, and we have so much fun together!
I’m so happy she helps me get through my biggest fear; to admit I’m gay. We told my family the message together, and she has supported me against the whole journey to be proud of my sexuality.
When I was young, my gay uncle often tells me about his life as a homosexual. Some of the stories were difficult, and I think they have scared me. For example when he was in high school, some of the boys from the football team bullied him. They told him to stay out of the changing room after the football matches.
Maybe it’s because of my uncle´s stories it took me 19 years to come out. But actually I’m very impressed about the whole gay thing here in Australia. People are so kind! Of course not all people, but most of them. In the beginning people recognize me because of my sexuality as the gay boy, but today I feel very well. I’m again the same football guy as I was before I came out.
