David sighed heavily. Why did things have to be so complicated? Deep inside, he knew what the right thing to do was - but he wasn’t sure he had the courage. Maybe Justin could help. Justin always helped him, but he wasn’t sure that the problem was fixable, David just wanted to scream it, but he wasn’t brave enough. His dad would be furious, all he wanted was another son to carry the legacy of the Norton name. David was tired of living in a lie, tired of pretending all the time, he was just so tired. He got his phone from the pocket of his letterman jacket, he thought how nice it would be to just text, Justin. Justin was never scared or ashamed, he was always pushing him to be himself, he put his phone down, he needed to solve this himself. He opened his computer, and got to the search bar, he searched “how do I tell my parents I am gay” and “how do I know I am gay”. He didn’t know why he searched the last thing, he already knew it, but he just wanted to be sure, because being and thinking are two very different things. David was so confused, he took his phone again and texted Justin, his hands were shaking, and he couldn’t seem to get the right words down. He managed to text something, Justin, of Couse being Justin, told him that he would regret not coming out and that telling his parents was the right thing to do. David contemplated if he would feel as liberated as Justin said he did after telling his parent, but Justin parents weren't his parents, David’s parents were catholic Trump supporters, he worried that they would never accept him. He knew that it was a risk he would have to take, this lie he was living couldn’t continue anymore. He got up at walked towards the door, but before he could wrap his hand around the doorknob he stopped, David couldn’t figure out what was wrong with him, he had to do this. He walked backwards and sat on his bed, he looked around the room, saw all posters from the musicals his mom and he used to go to, he wasn’t ready to give that up, but he couldn’t compromise with himself anymore either. His parents had to accept him, they just had to, he started to feel a determination in him. He got up walked to the door, down the stairs and in the living room, it was empty, he walked in the kitchen. There was a note on the fridge, they were at church. David thought to himself, “maybe another day”.
