This book is a brief version of Anne Frank’s own diary which has been published after her death. Anne Frank got the diary at her thirteen-year-old birthday and she wrote in it regularly until the day she died. In the diary she has described everything about her life as a Jew during the Second World War. When Hitler came to power in Germany in 1933, Anne Frank and her family fled from Germany to the Netherlands. Here they lived for several years. When Germany invaded the Netherlands everything changed. The Jewish people totally lost their freedom. This meant, that all Jews had to walk everywhere and their children were forced to go to Jewish schools. Moreover, the Jews were only allowed to be outside until eight o’clock at night. At some point all the suffering became too much. Therefore, the family decided to disappear for a while - just until the war had come to an end. That was because there were rumors about the nazis showing up at Jewish peoples’ doors late at night - and suddenly the Jews were just gone! They were sent to concentration camps, of course.
