I just heard that my school started a program for those who want to be exchange students. I thought it would be a good idea for me to give people some advice about meeting people from other countries, because of how many different cultures I meet every day.
I have to live in two different cultures because of my parents, who are born in a middle eastern country, they grew up having respect as a very important part of communication. Whereas I am born in Denmark, where the values of life are different. for that reason, it is hard for me to balance the two cultures, the one I have at home and the one I live in every day.
Now for those of you who are exchange students, depending on where you will be staying the advantages and challenges you would have, might vary. I am just going to be straight forward and tell you that you will mess up at least a couple of times, but learn from those mistakes and try to find out what kind of people they are and what they value. Now the main challenge would be fitting in and becoming part of the family routine, a good idea would be not just getting used to them, but also getting them used to you.
